Following Lliswerry Ladies impressive silver medal winning performance at the Welsh Road Relays in September (Sandra Chipper, Antoinette Dumayne, Emma Wookey, Nicky Collin) qualification for the National Relays was secured. Due to other racing commitments, a substituted team made the trip to Birmingham for the prestigious ERRA National Road Relays on the 7th October 2017.
Thank you to all the fantastic runners who braved the typical January cold and rain to run the 8 on Sunday. We have had a fantastic response to the race already on our Facebook page.
It's that time of year again when we start scrutinising the results from the club championship, and look at who has grasped the coveted trophies for their performances over the year. Once again the LPF went down to the wire but, as a lot of people have been asking, "what is the LPF and how does it work?"
We have been informed by Runners World that through an error in their on-line entry system, our 2017 race has been significantly oversubscribed over & above what we consider to be a safe maximum. This has brought a massive burden of work and stress to the race organising team who have been considering the "least worse" option in the situation. Clearly we could simply cancel all entries and restart the whole process, but this would be unfair to the entrants who successfully applied during the early hours of Thursday morning.
Lliswerry Runners' Emma Wookey has become JCP Swansea Half Marathon Ambassador alongside Commonwealth Games, Team GB athlete and Swansea Harrier, Dewi Griffiths.
Emma Wookey was first lady and first Lliswerry Runner across the line in a impressive 77 minutes 51 seconds at the 2015 half marathon, breaking the previous female course record by 5 minutes and 29 seconds.
Lliswerry Runners and Caerleon Running Club's hugely successful Couch to 5k programme is back and our coaches are ready to help a new group of beginners complete their first 5km.
Starting at 9am on Saturday 9 January at Newport parkrun, the 9 week programme will help absolute beginners gradually build to running a full 5km with the support of friendly volunteers and experienced coaches.
