For the last 27 years we have organised the Lliswerry 8 mile road race around the lanes through Goldcliff and Nash villages. Since it was first held in 1985 entries have grown and now attracts more than 450 runners of all capabilities.
"A combination of the right distance, dead flat course, appropriate date and constistantly good organisation have meant that we always get a good entry. It seems to appeal to runners of all ages and abilities"
For some runners, the Lliswerry 8 is used as a time trial race leading up to The London Marathon in April. For others, it's a chance to run their first road race knowing that the course is not too demanding. Everyone has their own target. From the sharp end where Marian Sutton set the course record several years ago through to the competitors who take over 90 minutes.
Managing your organisations paper records can be an uphill struggle. However, like the Lliswerry 8, www.scan4u.co.uk can offer a service without "uphill struggles". Whether it is scanning archive paperwork or holding it in their secure warehouse, Eltham Lewis Associates Ltd can deliver the solution.
Scanning can be returned as PDF images and can include OCR - Optical Character Recognition which enables faster retrieval of information. Eltham Lewis Associates Ltd are not only ISO9001 Certified but are also Certified to BS10008 (Legal Admissability), BS7858 (Security Screening) as well as being registered under The Data Protection Act.

The Weather Forecast the next 15 days from accuweather
PLEASE NOTE THE NEW START TIME AT 11:30 (30 minutes later than previously)
DO NOT ASSUME YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO. PLEASE READ THIS!
You can enter on-line at Runners World. There will be an additional processing charge of £1.50 for entries on-line.
You can check your entry has been received by looking at '2012 Entries so far...' on this web site. We check the on-line entries every couple of days so don't expect the list to be updated instantly.
In 2009 Newport City Council closed Lliswerry leisure centre and so we now do not have any access to the buildings that are now part of Lliswerry secondary school and were the base of the event up to 2009.
The start, race route and finish are generally unchanged. Parking is now at the Newport Stadium (NP19 4PT) and entries/registration and presentation have moved to the Amber Bar of Newport AFC (next to the Newport Stadium). These are all about 800m from the start of the race. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PARK AT THE SCHOOL.
How to get there
The Newport Stadium and Lliswerry secondary school are accessed via the Southern Distributor Road that runs south of Newport joining Junction 28 (Tredegar Park) to Junction 24 (The Coldra/Celtic Manor) of the M4. For those arriving from outside Newport we feel it is easiest to follow the route in from Junction 24 of the M4. The Newport Stadium is well signposted and quite large but you should note that the entrance is from behind the Carcraft Supermarket. Car Parking is now available in the Newport Stadium car park. Please do not park opposite the leisure centre in front of the houses on Nash road. The car parks used in previous years are all closed.
Changing facilities, etc.
There are NO changing facilities at the Amber Bar but there are excellent changing and shower facilities at both the Newport Tennis Centre and the Velodrome. You will have to pay for these (roughly £1) but they are much better than those available at the old leisure centre. There are car parks nearer each of these facilities but they are fairly small. As ever, we recommend that you do not leave valuables in the changing rooms (not even in a locker) and cannot be responsible for any losses.
Entries
You can either enter in advance by post or on-line at Runners World, or you can enter on the day. If you choose to enter on the day you should aim to be at the Amber Bar by 10:30 am. We can take entries right up to 11:15am but you need time to get to the start line about 10 minutes away.
Entries for Collection on the day
We get all sizes and shapes of envelopes (and sometimes none at all) and often wonder whether the stamp will cover the return postage (the Post Office charge £1 for under stamped letters these days). Why not mark your entry form with a tick in "Collect on the Day" ? It saves us stuffing envelopes and saves you an envelope and a stamp.
You can collect your race numbers from the Race HQ located in the Amber Bar (identified by the Red Pin on the photo above).
If you enter on-line can you add a comment in the 'Any additional comments or information ...' box to say whether you want to collect your entry on the day. If blank I will assume you will collect it on the day before the event.
If you want to receive your number by post in advance we send out the race numbers about 10 days before the event.
You can check your entry has been received by looking at '2012 Entries so far...' on this web site. We check the on-line entries every couple of days so don't expect the list to be updated instantly.
Assembly at the start.
The start is still within the grounds of the school. It's only 800 yards from the Amber Bar and the Newport Stadium. There are traffic calming humps on the first 800 yards of the course so beware of a trip hazard. They will be marshalled.
The Course.
The course is a single, anti-clockwise, loop of 8 miles. There are only 4 junctions and the whole course is well marshalled. A lead car will proceed the race. You should always keep left on the course and only cross roads when instructed to do so by a race official. A pdf plan of the route can be found here.

Drinks Station
There is a drinks station with plastic cups of water between miles 4 and 5, soon after the left turn at the sea wall. The drinks station should be on the right hand side of the road but curcumstances on the day may require it to be on the left.
The Finish
The finish line is at the green gates that mark the entrance of the Lliswerry school. It is marked with a large FINISH Banner on the right of the finish line. Time keepers will record your time as you cross this line. You will then enter a tape funnel for 50 feet to enable us to record your race number. PLEASE DO NOT SKIP OUT OF THE FUNNEL. Having crossed the finish line you must complete your passage through the funnel. If, for some reason, you do not want you time recorded do not cross the finish line. Drinks will be available at the end of the finish funnel. You can collect your race momento back at the Amber bar after the finish. So KEEP YOUR RACE NUMBER, you need it when you collect your race momento.
